I was able to interview 3 of my freshman that I selected at random. I asked them a series of questions about eating disorders and the people who suffer with them.
Question #1:
Why do you think people with eating disorders keep everything so private?
Answers:
Student #1:
They don't want people to know they can't eat like a regular person.
Student #2:
Because people will think they have something wrong with them.
Student #3:
Most of the time they will get made fun of and that's the reason why they have an eating disorder in the first place.
Question #2:
Do you think eating disorders are more common among girls or boys? Why?
Answers:
Student #1:
Girls, because girls care about their weight more than boys do.
Student #2:
Girls, because they worry more about their weight than boys.
Student #3:
Girls, because boys don't care as much about their bodies as girls do.
Question #3:
Do you think people with eating disorders ever realize they have a serious problem?
Answers:
Student#1:
Yeah because they aren't gaining weight and they never have the urge to eat.
Student #2:
No, because they think everything they are doing is normal
Student #3: No, because they don't think it will affect them.
Question #4:
Have you even known someone with an eating disorder? If so,how did it affect your relationship with that person?

No, I have never known anyone with an eating disorder
Student #2:
No, I have never known anyone with an eating disorder

Yes, and I was the one with an eating disorder. It affected a lot of things. I wouldn't eat in front of people. My dad would try and make me eat all the time. It ripped my family apart. And because of my eating disorder my younger brother almost developed one.

Do you think eating disorders affect the person more mentally or physically?

Physically, because they are losing a lot of weight all the time.
Student #2:
Physically, because they don't have enough energy to do things
Student #3:
Physically, because their mental state always is the same no matter what but their weight is always changing and they are always sick.
